We have an AVAYA CM 6 running on a Cisco network with mostly 9650 telephone sets. Our network team recently enabled stricter port authentication. Now when we plug in a phone that has never been connected to our network (new, or newly refurbished) the phone will fail the authentication. We discovered that the phones that failed come to us with the setting 802.1X Supplicant set to Unicast/multicast. Our network team said this needs to be set to Disabled.

We powered up a phone and went into the setting before it connected to the network. Changed the setting and now all is OK. So it looks like we will have to do this for every new telephone set we connect to the network.
1 - Power up phone.
2 - wait for prompt "press * to program" and press the * key.
3 - Enter the passcode of craft.
4 - On the Craft Procedures menu highlight the option 802.1x and press Start.
5 - On the 802.1x Procedure menu check to see if the Supplicant option is set to Disabled. If not, highlight the Supplicant option and press Change.
6 - From the Supplicant screen press the right arrow until the Disabled setting shows up. Press Save.
7 - Press Back.
8 - Press Exit.
Now the phone will reboot and connect to the network successfully.

Does anyone know how to get around this with the port authentication, or make the process of changing the setting easier?
