Hi guys. I am running a Nortel voice solution with cisco 2950 and other sitches on the edges. I keep getting jitter errors and breakups on the ip phones connected to the edge swithes. Nortel recommend 802.1q support on a layer 2 device. How do I check if this is enbabled? Is there something else I should check? I connect to the core switch which is a catalyst 4000 layer 3,with a nortel i2002 - and my quality is stunning.

Ps. The phones connected to the edge switches are i2050 soft phones.

Thanks a lot

Riaan

802.1q = VLAN tagging = VLAN trunking in Cisco terms

You may want to know more about Nortel's recommendation and ask them to give you details. Both Cisco Cat2950 and Cat4000 supports 802.1q. So what are they going to do with 802.1q to improve the quality? Create separate VLAN for voice?

Or...are they actually referring to 802.1p? This is actually the IP precedence (or Type of Service or whatever) for layer-2 LAN QOS.

the fault im having is poor voice quality. could be 802.1p. do you know of a command i can use to inprove the voice?
