Hi

Does anybody know if it is possible to get an 8 port gigabit switch which has a fiber port on the back of it. I need to link to small offices and would like to have both on gigabit using an existing multimode fiber which goes between the two buildings.

Dont want to use a seperate media converter if i can help it.

8 port i dont know, but u can get 24 port from dlink where port 21 to 24 is shared copper-glas and u can by extra modules to plug in to make the copper 2 glas.

HP's Procurve line has a 12 port switch. Overnight, drop-ship lifetime warranty for no extra cost. I could rave for hours about what I like about the Procurves.

That's a bit of an odd request. Usually when you go to a switch with fibre uplinks you're looking at least 24 ports. The Cisco 3750 switches mentioned above are great switches, but they are expensive. The gigabit versions start around $4-5k.

They do make a Cisco Catalyst 2960G-8TC that has 7 10/100/1000 copper ports, and an 8th port that is shared between a 10/100/1000 copper or SFP module. You can't use both at the same time, so if you truly need to connect 8 devices plus the uplink you're out of luck. Also, that switch is about $1000 plus $400 for the SFP fibre module. For that much money you're knocking on the doors of some of the less expensive 24-port gigabit switches, which gives you room to grow.
