I am having some FTP speed issues (downloading from Mainframe running os/390 to Risc machine we are at 600-700+ KB/second, when uploading from RISC to Mainframe, we are getting speeds at least half of that) It was suggested that I check the duplex setting on the LAN. How would I check that setting on a Cisco 7204 Router. That is what we use to go from MF to the network - the 7204 has a CPA card.
Thanks,
Melissa

To check the settings on a particular interface, once you login into the router you can do the following:

show interface (name)
(ex: sh int ethernet0)

Also, when you do a "show run" (must be in "enable" mode), it will show you all the interfaces and if you have any duplex or speed settings. Sometimes, depending on the IOS version, it may or may not show you these particular settings.

To change duplex and speed settings:

conf t (takes you into config mode - terminal)
int (name) - what interface you want to work with
duplex (full/half) - enter
speed (10/100) - enter

You should also make sure that you can force the same settings on both sides. For example, if your computer can only support 10/half (speed/duplex), make sure you have your router set accordingly.

Good luck.
