I'm looking for a viable replacement to SQL Mail(xp_sendmail) on the 64 bit version of SQL Server 2000. Microsofts 64bit BOL is quick to point out that SQL Mail is not supported in the 64 bit version but suggests no alternatives other that using SQL Agent mail which is useless when scripting xp_sendmail commands..

I'm considering reading up on and trying CDO but I'm not sure if someone has come up with a better alternative.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Gordon Radley

Thanks Denny,

I googled xp_smtp_sendmail and it looks like it's a possiblity. I did notice that the xp_smtp_sendmail extended procedure does not exist in my master database on either the 32 bit or 64 bit server installations. Any idea why that is? I did install the SMTP service and stop and start SQL server on the 32 bit environment. This environment is Windows 2003 Enterprise Editiion with SQL Server 2000 Enterprize edition.

I found it. I didn't realize it was a 3rd party proc.

I'll see if I can get it to work. Thanks again!!

Yep, it's a 3rc party dll. I probably should have mentioned that. It works good as a replacement for xp_sendmail. I use it all the time in the 32bit world.
