I am noticing horrible speakerphone quality on 5621 IP phones after upgrading to the May 2009 Admin release, 4.2.17 which included new BINS for the phones. Before the upgrade the speakerphone quality was really good.

The phones were at firmware 8.0.16.
Now the phones are now at firmware 2.9.1

Has anyone else done the upgrade to both their IPO and 5621 phones and noticed a problem?

Did you check the extension setting if it's still on direct media path? If so turn off DMP

If I turn of DMP, won't I be using a VCM resource for the entire duration of every call?

yes, I noticed it too. Why would the DMP setting have anything to do with it BAS? I noticed it from my 5621 to an outside analog line. I think some CM users have mentioned this as well from a 4621 in the avayausers forum on 2.9.1

I turned off DMP just for testing purposes as BAS recommended, but the call quality was just as poor.

Try playing with the gain settings in manager (extension)

You could also try to put the codec on G711 if you leave it on Automatic then it will use G729.
Also on the phone itself try to turn off AGC (auto gain controle).

Already G.711, I did turn off AGC, it seems to have helped.
