Hi, I hope someone can help, An error is generated when users outside the company try to send e-mail to our company users, there is no problems sending internally. And the strange thing is it is only doing it with new accounts that are being set up, it is not doing it with accounts that were created previously.

We are using exchange server 2003 and use mail marshall for filtering, but even with mail marshall turned off the errors still generate.

There is no problem with these users sending email out either only with receiving. Whenever someone on the outside tries to send the new users an email the error is generated and the email isnt received. A copy of the error is below. I cannot find anything on this on microsoft support so I would be most grateful for any help, thanks.

<user@domain.com>:
xx.xx.xx.xx does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 Rule imposed mailbox access for
user@domain.com refused: user invalid
Giving up on xx.xx.xx.xx.

Could it be that the new users are made but do not have an smtp mailbox? Are the users made using the WIZARDS?
Internal mail is handeld different by Exchange

My first guess would be in that direction

does not like recipient" is not native exchange as far as I am aware.

Have a closer look at your mailmarshal. When you turn the mm off, make sure all mm service are stopped too.

Hey guys, thank you for the responses. They have a SMTP mailbox and all other settings are the same. When I stopped Mail Marshall I also stopped all its services, but that didn't help. I couldnt find much on this error anywhere on the net.

Thanks a lot guys, this will be a lot of help to me. Another thing I just noticed that may be the cause of the problem is that our Mail Marshall is only licensed for 150 users and we have about that many users now, so maybe I am now going over the limit when I create the new users. I will let you guys know how it goes, thanks again for all the help.

Hey guys, I got it working. Thanks a lot to you also paulha. That article helped. I dont know why this was still blocking even when I stopped all the Mail Marshal services but it was the connector in the Mail Marshall configurator. It has a user name and password stored in it to download the updates from active directory and the user and password stored in there was the one from the previous tech. and his account is now disabled. This is why it worked for old accounts but wasnt letting mail through on new accounts created.

I changed the user and password stored in there to the admin account.

Thanks again. I appreciate all the help from everyone on here.
