550 failed FTP upload ((the STOR) Command Error) - help please

I am trying upload to my site. I am getting the following error
550 failed FTP upload ((the STOR) Command Error)
when I try to upload. I appear to be able to download from the site fine, the problem is just uploading either the whole or part of the site.

Has anyone had this problem before and please can someone advise how I can resolve this issue. I can not understand why I can download but not upload?

I have not come accross this ever before and can find no reference to ti

I've had that error with GoLive either, but i've seen it with other ftp software. Never really found out what was wrong or what the error means but I had found that disconnecting, waiting a while and retrying usually worked.
