500v2 Upgrades

Hi All

I had a situation recently while upgrading a 9.0 system to 10.1. The 10.1 upgrade process would only see the chassis not the cards. I had to first upgrade to 9.1 and then 10.1.

Running the second upgrade straight after the first does not seem to work properly, the backup part takes forever (if it finishes at all).

My question is this. Is there a specific amount of time to wait in between upgrades?

It sounds like you are trying to upgrave via the network

The preferred procedure is to re-create the SD Card


Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I have recently been working on a 15 site SE 10.1 upgrade that the brannch 500's SD cards have hit 96% full and didn't want to upgrade properly. These systems started at 9.0 and have been though a lot of remote upgrades. Not sure what info it isn't deleted during the upgrades. I have had to go on site reformat and recreate the cards. This droped them to about 40% full.
Just make sure to get copiies of the config.cfg, security.cfg, PLDS.xml, holdmusic.wav, and I have also been getting copies of dhcp.dat, call_log.dat and licinfo.txt (if SE) and any custom .jpgs you may have as screen savers and such.

We've noticed the same and have just been replacing the SD cards

It allows us to just post them out and get the customer to swap them at an agreed time and then we just reboot to complete the upgrade.

If you upgrade with manager it usually takes a lot of time to backup the binary files. You can avoid that if you untick the 'backup binary files' check box.

I usually let manager point to the binary file folder (just download only the BINS ZIP archive) of the firmware you need to step through. Then upgrade without system file upload but with backup. Next point to the target firmware manager folder and upgrade again without backup but with system file upload.
