I have a customer that wants to use basic mode (key system functionality) on an IPO 500 v1. If I upgrade them to R8 can I use Basic Mode without any issues? I guess I am getting confused between Partner Mode and Basic mode... whats the difference between the two? is it just a marketing thing where they changed the name. the end goal is to give them key system functionality with 4 lines and 5 phones. the handsets will be 1416.

Partner mode allows you to reuse Partner handsets with a special ETR board. It functionally is pretty much the same as basic mode. I would NEVER 'upgrade' a customer to basic - you lose too much, especially in the programming. Why wouldn't you just put line appearances on the phones? You will still have to have a hunt group for answering incoming calls, but other than than you could emulate a key system pretty well.

Partner mode and Basic mode is essentially the same and only supported on the IP500v2 units.

gknight1,

If your goal is simply to have buttons correspond direct to a trunk, and have the system get outside dial tone on the trunk without pressing 9, you can do this with no issue in the IP Office 500v1, in all firmware it supports.

Use Manager, go to each user, and on Button Programming make your first set of buttons "Line Appearances". Which ever Line Appearance you put first will be the "off hook" dial tone.

Once you program your Line Appearances, program at least 1 or 2 "standard" appearances, so you can dial extension to extension.
