I am perplexed by this and have tried everything except calling Microsoft.
I consult for 2 companies in the same building no less. Both servers are Win2k with Exchange 2k and the latest patches, they also both run Symantec Mail Security for Exchange to filter Spam and viruses.
Frequently company z cannot email company x, they get the undeliverable message below. I can't find a rhyme or reason or any consistancy in it. Sometimes the emails go through fine. I've checked open relay and spam databases but company z is not found anywhere.
Any help or thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.

I would check with Symantec to make sure there are no filters that may be preventing delivery of mail.

try telneting from one to the other on port 25 and see if you the service disconnects you.

Symantec was no help and the telnet worked fine.

Thanks for the thoughts though. Any other ideas?

Is the MX record being managed by an ISP? I would check with the ISP from CompanyX to see if CompanyZ is not on their black list. Check this link:
Hopefully this link will help you narrow it down. I think somewhere this company is being black listed and you need to contact whomever to get off the blacklist.
