Hi guys ,
Recently upgraded to Exchange 2000 SP2 and have noticed that I now have problems sending email to certain domains (Hotmail is one of them). I receieve a NDR back with the following information :
"There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.
<mail1.voip.com.au #5.5.0 smtp;500 Syntax error, command unrecognized>"
Can anyone shed any light on this error ? I have tried creating a new Virtual Server and using it but i still have the same problem !
Thanks in advance !!!

Thanks Dan ...
I rectified the problem by adding a SMTP connector and using SMTP as oppossed to ESMTP. I did this because I noticed our Firewall filling up with logs and it was stripping some ESMTP headers which was making it impossible for my mail server to get along with the rest of the world.
I would like to know if there is a way you can disable SMTP without adding a connector ? As a connector is not nessacary in my environment.
I have read Microsoft article XFOR: How To Turn Off ESMTP Verbs in Exchange 2000 but it doesn't make to much sense.
Thanks

To disable all ESMTP verbs listed in the table above, the value would be 352257 (0x56001).

Now just follow the 8 steps. Dan
