Recently our receptionist phone, a 4424 set, started some strange behavior.

When a call comes in, the handset is picked up, but it takes 8 - 10 seconds for the green light to come on and the ringing line actually be picked up.

Swapping another 4424 set onto this line fixes the problem, so the problem is in the set, not the system.

I opened the phone up and found no obvious need for cleaning anything. The problem is not slow response of the switch hook, it is coming up right away.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I clean the inside of the phone? How would I do that, or would that just cause more problems?

Would I be better off sending it somewhere to be refurbished, or does anyone offer that service?

I would personally just swap out the phone and get that one repaired. i wouldnt spend too much time on it, considering you know its the handset.

Get a new phone, the hook switch is broken.
Repairing might cost more then a new one, and whats next...the display/buttons? Better safe the sorry, you're talking over a receptionist phone.
