Anyone hear of issues with the 3 Com 3C905B NICs and 450's having major problems trying to autonegotiate with each other. Any documentation from Nortel would help like CSB's......

not with modern drivers, the Win 95 and NT CDs contains drivers so old they were problematical. but WIn 98 and up seem fine. you may wish to download new drivers from 3com

Do they work if you lock Duplex and Speed, but not if you set BOTH sides to auto-negotiate? (if either side is not in auto-negotiate then auto-negotiate always fails) I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Jimbo,

Thanks for the response...let me explain a little more. This is for a video conferencing application. The NICS I'm referring to are in a mobile room system (Dell PC). Ideally we would hard set the port on the switches, the problem with that is the port is sometimes different based on where the system is. So you think why not change/hardset the NIC? Becasue we would have to set the NIC to 10 MB full. The whole network isn't 10/100 yet...do you think upgrading the machines to windows 2000 pro will make any difference with the new drivers?

I work hard at NOT hard coding my speeds, but still fail about 1 in 25 times. some equipment is 'iffy' some wires are out of spec. etc.

being moble, I would work HARD at not having to hard code duplex , even if it meant a newer NIC.

newer drivers are available from 3com without a new OS. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
