Just when i was thinking there would be no new developments for the NBX line i got this on my Inbox:

3Com® is pleased to announce the general availability of the 3Com NBX release 6.5. The 3Com NBX V5000, V3000A, V3000BRI, V3001A, V3001BRI and V3001R are all full-featured IP telephony solutions designed for small and medium sized businesses moving to a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) acrhitecture. Its ease of use allows non technical personnel to make individual or system -wide changes with a simple click of a mouse. The systems ability to scale up to 1,500 devices and to support standards-based protocols , including Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), gives organizations the confidence to choose the NBX solution for their current and future telecom needs. Release 6.5 takes the SIP story to a new level by allowing organizations to use the newly implemented native NBX Messaging system that now supports Real-Time Protocol Media (RTP) when operating in SIP mode, this alleviates the organization added expenses of a stand-alone messaging server which can cost serveral thousand dollars, hence reducing the customers total cost of ownership (TCO). This new native RTP Voicemail support was designed such that all existing Voicemail features in native voicemail were preserved and functional. In addition to this, NBX release 6.5 has also implemented a much asked for feature in UK/EMEA, called the Ring Busy feature. NBX releae 6.5 and its embedded phone application / DSP code inherently supports 3Com's latest addition to the family of 3Com 31xx series IP Phones, the 3102C Backlit phone.NBX release 6.5 also has SIP stack enhancements that allow it to better interoperate with SIP applications , SIP Gateways and with 3Com's own VCX IP Telephony system which by default operates in standard SIP mode. Minor enhancments to its real time operting systems memory management utility also allow the NBX to have better performance using release 6.5. This NBX release will not be supported on older NBX 100 platforms.

What's new for NBX version 6.5.18?

* Integrated RTP voicemail messaging system on all NBX platforms (except NBX100)

> When NBX is operating in SIP mode, this release will allow for native RTP Voicemail using either G711 or G729 codecs to be used. External VM servers are not required.
> Customers can still choose to use IP Messaging as an external Voicemail server with release 6.5 if they choose to do so, this release does not limit the system from doing this.
> All international Voicemail prompts have been converted to G.711 and G.729
> Language packs in 6.5 release will have G.711, G.729 and ADPCM prompts included.
> Easy to use, simply Enable SIP in Netset (System Wide Settings, Enable Features System Wide Page)
> Select NBX Messaging system, then select either G711 or G729 codec from the NBX Messaging page.
> Please note: As in the past some NBX platforms will continue to need a memory upgrade to support running the SIP protocol. Please check the product guide for more details.

* Support for the 3Com 3102C Backlit phone (3Com SKU 3C10402C) in NBX Release 6.5

> Current NBX DSP image for the existing 3102B model is also downloadable by the 3102C and without any software changes, the 3102C
phone will download and its backlit will work without any configuration from NetSet or the phone menu options (TUI).

> Please check price list and books open message for 3102C product for more details and regional availability

* New Ring Busy Call processing Feature

> New Ring Busy feature implemented in release 6.5 to better handle calls that you do not want forwarded to your call coverage or voicemailbox. This was feature was requested
in serveral EMEA and APR markets as the phone mannerism and cultures are different. NBX release 6.5 will provide this as a flexible user configurable option in its easy to use web interface (NetSet)

* Improved SIP Stack

> NBX 6.5 supports sending INVITE with SDP for outgoing calls which it did not do prior to release 6.5
> For all outgoing calls from NIP devices, NBX sends INVITE with SDP which it did not do prior to release 6.5
> Session refresh (Re-INVITE) supports both with SDP and without SDP.
> NBX 6.5 supports processing of INVITE with or without SDP
> NBX release 6.5 added support for SIP Early Media Support to allow for service provider or carrier call progress tones to reach SIP devices.

* Enhanced Memory Manager Software
