When installing the 3com 3c905c-tx network interface card on solaris 8 x86, at boot time i get the message:
Configuring IPv4: no active connections found;please connect.

The weird thing is that the interface when loggin in to solaris is up and the link on the switch is working. Why does that message keep coming up?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

First of all from your post I'm assuming that you aren't having any issues once you are up and running.

On my SPARC machines I've had similar messages when I use a FORE ATM card. These machines tend to have a native device and a radically different hardware architecture, so I get something like:

hme0 link down or cable problem (don't remember exactly)

The drivers for the FORE ATM are not getting loaded until later on in the INIT so until they are loaded the card is not communicating with the OS. All it sees is the built in device. I suspect you are seeing something similar, but it's not seeing *any* network device until it loads the 3com drivers. It's probably complaining because it is seeing network configuration files but no device.

The link should light whenever there's power to the card. Link establishment is handled by the firmware, and even if you unplumb the interface you should get a light.

Thanks Brian for your reply. Is there a way to make this annoying message at boot time just go away?

Turn your monitor off =)

Seriously, I don't know of a way to make the message go away.

The possessed box keeps turning my monitor on and displaying this #@##@*^$@(^ message. LOL

Anyway thanks for the help.
