I understand that from a network management(OV, SMARTS) perspective, the stack can look like a single switch. But, is it possible; how is it possible, to have the switches act as a combined stack but be managed by network management software as separate devices ?

This isn't possible with the 3750 stacking architecture. Once the switches are stacked using the StackWise cables they effectively become a single device. If you want to manage them separately then you will have to connect them using an alternative method such as GigE and dispense with the StackWise cables.

The only way that would be possible is to not stack them but you could keep them in the same subnet range and give them their own unique ip address to manage them with , then you have 2 unique switches in the same subnet .

I have never worked with it, so I do not know what is possible or what the point is of the command, but you can use the session command to access a specific swith in the stack.

switch#session 3 (accesses the 3rd switch in the stack)
switch-3#

most notably there is no config term command in this mode.
