Hi,

I came across a strange problem today.... Hopefully someone knows the answer

I have 2 3750's both are now running the same version of IOs after an upgrade

Stack 1 Cisco Catalyst 3750G-16TD
Stack 2 Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24T

They will boot individually fine no problems.

When I join using the stack cable, the problem begins....

Stack 1 will boot and elect its self as Master, Stack 2 will boot so far ( Displays Ver ) then Hangs.... The RPS Light comes on in the front panel.

Swap the Stack cable round Stack 2 Elects its self as the master and Stack one hangs at exactly the same place , displaying the RPS Light ( Green )

Cisco states that this illuminates when a RPS ( Remote Power supply )is connected ....

Let me tell you unless its invisable and a Pixie at the bottom of my cab is doing it theres not one there !!!!

Am i missing something so simple..

Any Ideas

Question for you: Have you done any kind of manual configuration regarding the Stackwise configuration insomuch that you are trying to control which one becomes the stack master?

If not, i would try powering on the switch you prefer to be the stack master. I can't remember how long the master switch election takes place for (10 seconds springs to mind) but give it at least a minute AFTER it has finished reloading before you power on the other switch.

Also I know these stacking cables can be quite problematic if damaged. Are you able to confirm this is a known good cable or can you use a known good cable in place of this one?

Thanks for the reply,

The answer to your Question is yes..... and Yes...

I powered on the first switch ( Actually been up and running for 2 months) connected the stack cable booted the second and gets the error as described.

Tried the otherway round let the first switch boot until we can log on and power up the second one.. Exactly the same error.

We are in the process now of wiping the 16D and reloading it with a fresh IOS. I will keep you informed of how it goes. ( They are the same version at the moment ) but wondering if its been corrupted although it does boot and seems to have all functionality.

One thing I did spot was the second swith although cannot boot when connected, has taken on the appearance of a slave switch eg all ports are 2/0/1 so its working to a point !!!!

Tried 3 different stack cables also ....

At a lost but i wont be beaten
