Hi-

I have a perimemter 3640 router that has a few T1 serial cards configured. There is one card that doesn't have a cat 5 cable plugged into the T1 port but shows an amber AL light lit.

Is there a way to just turn this light off not affecting the second port's green light on the same serial card(green light, because there is in fact a cat 5 cable plugged in .. live connection).

I'm thinking this is just a standard function for this router.. if there isn't in fact a cable ported to the card then the Alarm light (amber) is lit.

appreciate any support

check the interface in the config, if it is not admin shutdown then perform a shutdown on it and this should switch the light off.

Hi watchguarmonkey,

What if it is admin shutdown, how can I take out off the admin shutdown and then shut it down so no light is shown.

Thanks so much.

No, he's telling you to put it INTO admin shutdown mode.

config t
int s0/0 (or whatever your interface is)
shutdown
ctrl-Z

That's it.

Hi jpm121-

When I went to the interface (in this case fastethernet 1/0) is was already "administratively shutdown".. but the alarm light is still on.

so how do I turn off the AL amber light :-(

thank you
