Hi

I am getting a write error on a drive on a 3575 library which suggests that the drive might need cleaning. I have been using tapeutil to see how many cleaning cycles are left but I am not getting very far.

Does somebody know how to clean drives on a IBM 3575 magstar library?

Best regards

if it's a robot with picker, place the robot offline, then go through the menu , if I recall well it's item 14 or 15 -> clean drives -> go into the submenu -> clean all drives, or just 1 of your choice.after cleaning, just place the robot back online. If you are using TSM, normally you can issue the clean drive command, but I prefer doing it manually on the robot.Normally the robot is set to autoclean. When you got the write error, were there any SIM_MIM RECORDS to go along with that? Because most of the time after a request for cleaning, you will get a SIM_MIM_RECORD entry ,stating the drive has been cleaned.

Hi

Thanks a lot for your help. The drive has now been cleaned and a tape mounted successfully on it.

Best regards
