We use a 3570 library to back up our RS/6000s

Recently we have done a Disaster Recovery test and found we could not read the tapes from one of our systems.

Many days later (our systems are all geographically seperated) I found that I could not read the tapes on either of our 2 other libraries.

If I use new tapes in the library then all is OK

Anyone have any opinion on how long these tapes should last ?

The IBM warranty (such as it is) is for 5 years and I suspect these tapes are getting on towards that age.

Hi,

We had bad 3 years recovering lost data on DLT7000 tapes on hundreds of customers, till we have verified that this is an inherent DLT7000 technology problem.

It's just not reliable at all,an we had Quantum to recover the data on tape-by tape basis,to avoid court cases.

We did lost severall tens of tapes in total, out of severall hundrends.
