You are wrong. The alarms port is actually relay contacts. When your system goes in to alarm, the contacts close (or open, I forget if they are normally open or closed). It's used for alarms reporting by various 3rd party devices like the Crytycal(i) from Teletronics. The alarm contacts have been around since the old SG days, now we are using SNMP but I still think the hard alarm contacts are more reliable.
