I was looking on the Microsoft site for some security updates.

There were different updates for Win XP 32 and 64 bit editions.

How can I tell which edition my installation is.
I am running XP Home.

Thinking about it is XP Home 32 bit and XP Pro 64 bit. Could it really be that simple?

Unless you have managed to buy an Athlon 64 Bit processor, you are running a 32 bit machine.

Whether it is Pro or Home makes no difference. All Athlon XP and Pentium processors are 32 bit (The Athlon Opterons are the execption, but if you had one of those you would know it!)

The Intel Itanium, and other very high end server processors are 64 bit, and a version of XP was released for them, but for home use you will have the 32 bit edition.

Still if you are not sure, download it and run the update. A 64 bit executable WILL NOT run on a 32 bit machine and (for the moment at least) visa versa.

Thanks,

Pretty straight forward really.

I am running on a P3 550 so 32 bit it is.
