I'm not too familiar with the system, so bear with me...

Our current configuration is:

Nortel Norstar ICS version 4.1
3 incoming CO's
10 extensions (mostly 7316's)
Flash voice mail

We are a small office, no receptionist or operator.

We have a hunt group set up. All three incoming lines are assigned to the hunt group. All DN's are members of this hunt group. Ringing is set to broadcast, so all phones ring when a call comes in on any line. If the call is not answered after 4 rings it goes to the general delivery voice mail box.

I tried to set up voice mail for all our users.
I set call forward no answer to 3 rings for each set (to users voice mail)

I set call forward busy to 3 rings for each set (to users voice mail)

But since all phones ring on an incoming call, if anyone is on a line when a second call comes in, that call goes immediately to that users voice mail (because his set has call forward busy).

So, is it possible to:
1. Have all phones ring when a call comes in on any line.
2. Have users private voice mail, so calls transfered to thier extension go to voice mail if there is no answer or they are on the phone.
3. If the call is not answered after 4 rings then have it go to the general delivery mailbox.

Thanks,

Mike

You couldn't have a HG setup, not with your symptons. Is there any chance the 3 lines are set to ring on the sets as well as being in a HG?

Don't use CFB, just CFNA, at 3 rings.

If you have a HG set up there is an overflow which can be directed to the voicemail of the General Delivery VM.

Sounds like you just have all the sets ringing on all the main trunks.

HG will actually ring on the sets, but it will be to a button the that you choose to ring on. Due to this feature it is ringing on that button rather than the intercom button.

Then you can have Call Forward No Answer enabled for each set.

You should have the AA pick up with a greeting after 3 rings then the caller can transfer to a phone and if no answer it will forward to their VM. If you are just goingto use VM boxes then the phone taht has the GD MB on it should be set at 3 rings and all other set at 4.

Thanks for the help so far.

It looked like there was a hunt group set up, but maybe not.

However, hunt group or not, is there any way to achieve the following? I just am not familiar enough to know exactly what to ask.

1. Have all phones ring when a call comes in on any line.
2. Have users private voice mail, so calls transfered to thier extension go to voice mail if there is no answer or they are on the phone.
3. If the call is not answered after 4 rings then have it go to the general delivery mailbox.

If you did not care so much about calls not ringing their sets when busy then:
Lines Appear and Ring on all sets.
Have the main Reception set that has the General box set to 3 Rings on FNA.
Have the other sets at 4 Rings on FNA.

or

Set lines to Appear Only on all sets
Find and unused DN i.e. X240
Program lines to Appear and Ring at 240
Program FNA to vmails DN (F985 to find out)at 3 rings
Assign an Answer DN key to each set for X240
Assign FNA to 4 rings on All sets

If you must have forward busy to vmail then:
Remove all lines from sets
Setup a Hunt group and add all the sets as members.
Program the HG keys to all sets and assign the lines in Hunt Group programming.
Have the HG overflow to vmails DN (F985 to find out).

or

Have voice mail answer the call and let people direct themself or do both but with an option from AA to press 0 for assistance where 0 points to the HG DN.

Thankd for the additional information curlycord.

As soon as I get time I will try some of these ideas and see how they work out.

I'll need to read up on the Appear only and Appear and ring.

Thanks,

Mike
