Help me through this scenario if you would. I'm lacking sleep and can't think straight right now. [morning][morning][morning]

I have a remote site that I will be turning up for the first time soon. I have my 2811 router configured for T1 access, but the LEC is telling me it could be another month before the T1 can be turned up. I already have cable internet access near the site running to a security camera.

What would it take to temporarily use the available cable internet access to get some type of internet access for my users at this remote site. Can I just use the cable modem and plug into my stack of LAN switches there? Do I need to configure each PC so as to know where the internet access is coming from? Maybe the router does not even play into this temporary scenario..?

Guidance please.

i don't see why you cannot use this cable internet connection. As you say, plug it into your network and, if necessary, assign a LAN address that fits into your current schema.

All your users should then need is to have a default gateway that is same as the LAN address of this cable modem.

Stuff that may catch you out may include things like: NAT may be required to be enabled on the cable modem. May already be enabled of course - worth checking if you can. Also, unless your users are using DHCP from this cable modem or their PC's are preconfigured to use an open DNS server, you may need to update each of their machines with an appropriate DNS server(s) that is to be used for the cable link.
