2651XM - capable for VPN connection on Ethernet Interface

I have a 2651XM with 3 Fast Ethernet interfaces. I am obtaining a service that connects my corp office and colocation office via a 3MB VPN tunnel.

I need to know if the 2651XM (software wise) is capable of running a VPN on a Ethernet interface. After some research, I found I might need the VPN module, but I am not sure.

any help would be useful.

i heard from a tech friend of mine that I could download the Advanced IOS for cisco and be okay.


is this true?

..if you have an existing smartnet contract..
...you could log onto cisco's website and pull an ios for that router..but i think the contract is device specific..even though you could download other ios's ...

....but i think they can audit what ios's you are pulling and try to punish...

The VPN modules that Cisco sell are, on the whole, to improve performance through hardware encryption acceleration. Therefore you don't technically need it to build VPN tunnels between the device in question and remote devices.

The Advanced IP services IOS will suffice for your needs as it comes with full VPN support.

so I could purchase a smartnet contract for my exsisting 2651XM and download the Advaced IP services ISO or any ISO for that matter and be legal and have the same thing as purchasing a new 2651XM-2FE/VPN???

sounds like I could save a few $1k doing it this way.
