2610 with ADSL WIC Setup 1

I am trying to setup a router that will receive multiple DSL connections. One line will be connected directly to a ADSL WIC and others will be brought in from a 678 modem to a ethernet port on the router.

My question is, how do I configure both a static and dynamic IP connection on the WIC? I use Qwest for the DSL line and they use PPPoA for authentication.

How would I configure this to eventually do load-balancing? Thanks.

OK..your core router is the 2610....you will need the second router int order to utilize your ip space. I would look into upgrading from the 678 to something like the 827 series. There are a few choices for this router so make sure you get the right type. You will then also need an unmanaged switch. You would then configure that router to connect to your DMT dsl circuit with the first ip routeable on the ethernet port. Then connect this to your switch. Then the switch to the 2610 ethernet which would then use the second ip routeable with the default gateway being the next hop router ip address. This will give you the ports to connect ip routable devices such as mail servers and others directly on the internet by connecting them to your switch. Or you could just connect it right now with a crossover cable to one of your ethernet ports and we can test from there. We know that the IP address on the 678 is:
IP Port Address = 00, 71.32.228.190
IP Port Address Mask = 00, 255.255.255.224

The ip address is one less than the broadcast address so you can use any from .161 to .189 on the ethernet port.

Forgot something. Forget the 827 series....look at the 1700 series because the ethernet port is fast ethernet I beleive and they have Wic slots which your adsl card will work in and depending on the model of 1700 you could add another wic or 2 later on.

Hmm, thanks joamon. We bought the 2610 to manage our ip address and hold the ADSL WIC. Can we not use this for that? We were thinking of using either a managed or unmanaged switch behind the 2610. We already have our block IPs subneted and being used at the moment on the 678, so we just need to configure the 2610 to act like the 678. Then we are going to bring the other DSL line in from another 678 into one of the 4 or 5 ethernet ports on the blade we put in.

I think you can do that. It has been long time since I worked with Cisco 678.....I do now that configuring the wic dsl card is somewhat different and I have never actually worked with them and do not have the equipment to work through it with you.
Think you should be able to change dialer0 from ip address negotiated to a static address in your 30 block.Also the username and password.
A word of caution....this connection when made would be easily accessable. You have an unencrypted level 15 username and password and ip http server running. I would lock that down before putting it on the internet.
