I have a Dell Poweredge 2650 with Windows 2003 Server installed with Exchange 2003 SP1. I was about to installe Exchange SP2 to increase the storage limits but the release notes said it's a good idea to upgrade the server to SP1.

Applied SP1 and server is now hanging at "applying computer settings." After about 40 minutes, I got the logon screen and logged in..."Applying computer settings" is going again...I can get into the machine remotely and the event logs aren't showing me anyting...

No APC software and no apc agent services installed (I saw that post out there)...Any ideas? Exchange seems to be running fine as I can access a mailbox on it...

Help! Thanks so much!

I was going to add that two of the services:

OM common services: starting
Distributed Transaction Coordinator: stopping

After about 2 hours, I was able to get back into the machine...

Any ideas? I think if I reboot, I'll get the same thing...

Try looking into the DNS, are you running Forwarders or Root hints? And do they look normal?

Shut down the server manually, came right back up...

Rebooted the server 5 more times and it booted into the OS/login screen just fine...No more hanging at the "Applying computer settings" screen...

Imagine that...
