2003 Print server problems with NT......

Is anyone aware of how to get an XP and NT driver onto a 2003 print server, tried NT first then XP then XP then NT but it keeps saying that the second print driver is invalid.

Please help first day of new job hoping to impress.

should be just a matter of sharing the printer loaded onto 2003 server. On the same page you should see an "additional drivers" button. Download the addition inf files for XP and NT and add them.

That is what i have done, i am not trying to make it more complicated, it will not take the second driver it says that it is invalid.

Having problems mainly with HP4050 and HP4300.

Any one got any other ideas.

I managed to solve it in the end.

The .inf file in the driver points to for example

HP4300 PCL6 for winnt
and
HP4300 PCL 6 for XP

The space in the .inf file means that the drive files are stored differently in the print server so they cannot both be used because they have different names.

Cracked it in the end.

Can you tell me what you did to solve this problem as I am having exactly the same problem myself. I have installed the printers on Windows Server 2003 and am trying to add NT drivers.

If i remember correctly it should be in the post above. In the driver that you are trying to install make sure that you have the unpacked one and not the exe.

Then go into the .inf file. In there in about 3 places there is a reference to the printer that you are installing with the driver, this needs to be the same on both drivers as you cannot install 2 drivers with a different name.

HP4300 PCL6 for winnt
and
HP4300 PCL 6 for XP

Make sure that they match.

Hi Mac,

Thanks for responding. I did what you said. I basically downloaded the lastest version of the printer driver from the HP site and edited the .inf file so that the printer name was the same as the one I already installed.

However, when I try to install the driver now it says that the driver has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify that it is compatible with this version of Windows. It then recommends that I Stop installation.

What do I do now. Obviously, this is an NT driver and it is a Windows 2003 server machine. But I am installing it as an additional driver for a printer so that it is available for client PC's to download.??????

It will probably say that with most drivers you try, because you have changed the driver name in the .inf file it will not be on the HCL in the system so it will give that error.

It will do the same with any driver that was created or released after the version of windows you are using was made avaliable.

You should be fine to carry on with the install and ignore the stop error.
