Hello all,
We are in the process of migrating our network to WIn2k3. WE currently have 2 Win 2K DC and we have 2 Win2K3 servers that we want use as our DC's. I understand the steps to allow Win 2K3 to be installed on to the network (adprep and FSMO transfer) but I have a few more questions. We are currently using AD integrated DNS, after I transfer the FSMO roles over do I just point all the servers to one of the new Win 2K3 servers? Also we currently have DHCP running on only one server. When we go to WIn 2K3 we want to make one of them a secondary DHCP server. Firstly How do we transfer DHCP to Win2K3 and secondly how do we create a secondary DHCP server from there? If anybody has any links or info on this it would greatly appreciated.

You can point all of your server to the new Win2K3 box for DNS, but you would have better redundancy if you have 2 DNS server. Have them point ot each other for DNS.

For your DHCP, you can simply duplicate the scope on the new server and remove the scope on the old server.

I would however suggest that you SPLIT the scope. Let each server handle half of it. That way if one server goes down the other can handle the requests.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for clearing that up Mark. I thought that was the case but I wasn't completely sure.
