I have installed Office 2007, keeping 2003 programs. However each time I click a desktop icon for a program that was of 2003 origin, it opens up in 2007 version!!! I don't want to happen. Also if you don't open the program up in its native version and then close it makes it confused. In the past I ran seperate drives but now you can install XP on only one drive I'm stuffed.

Is there a way round it. Driving me so mad I think I will try ang get Bill Gates phone number and tell him what I think. Thanks

Did you specify an alternate installation folder?? If not, 2007 may have overwritten the 2003 files. Can you browse to the installation folder and find any 2003 executable that will launch correctly??? If not, then your 2003 is probably gone.

Search your entire hard drive for Excel.*, winword.* and then try opening them. If nothing is 2003, I'm correct.

You would then need to reinstall 2003 to an alternate location c:\program files\office2003 or whatever to differentiate it from the other installation.

Many thanks. It asked if I wanted to keep old programs, which I did. Both 2003 and 2007 are in seperate directories, however when I click on a previous shortcut on Access applications it opens in 2007 and adds it to the recently opened list in Access 2007. I just want Office 2007 when I want it. Regards

Have you tried right-clicking on an office file and selecting "Open With" and browsing to the .exe (version) that you want? Watch out for the check box in regards to always opening the file with the selected program.

If they are not going to coexist together, remove the version of Office that you don't want.

Why can't you install XP on different drives, you should be able to do so at Setup?

What about Virtual PC?

You could also look to the MS Office forum for expert help.

Chances are Office 2007 simply updated where the desktop shortcuts point. Right click them and select "Properties" and ensure they point to the apps in the 2003 folder and not the apps in the 2007 folder.

Many thanks both, I will try that. At the momeent I have removed Office 2007. If I could find a way to have a second XP on a seperate partition I would be happy. But so far have had no luck getting it there using Partition Magic. I have considered putting on the Professional XP on another partition, but don't want to buy it if I then find I cannot install. Don't know also if an OEM version would boot up in the CD Drive.

All a bit of a mess still.
