Hi, I have exchange 2007 running with 2007 clients but due to our new Sage crm software that is being installed their plug-in doesn't work with 2007 clients. I have no public folders and to use 2002 clients I will need to add one I assume, my question as we are new to outlook and exchange will there be any complications in switching all users from 2002 outlook to 2007 outlook? as Sage are releasing an update for a 2007 outlook plug-in in 6 weeks but the CRM solution is ready to be installed and used apart from the obvious that people will have to get used to outlook 2002 then 2007 a couple of months later can anyone please tell me the downsides to this as I want to wait as I think keeping exchange 2007 with outlook 2007 clients will cause myself less grief but I need some good arguments to back this up.

Many thanks

Well I had nice long reply to this post and then access to the tek-tips website went down. Anyways, I would try to think outside the box on this one since it is a temporary thing. Is there not a plugin for Outlook 2003?

Outlook 2007 uses the ribbon which is quite different from the Outlook 2003 and ealier menu system. I took me a couple of months to get used but I do like the ribbon better. It is easier to find things. I am sure people will complain about that. My suggestions.

1) Use a virtual machine running windows XP. Virtual PC is free and so is the VMWare player.
2) Use a thin client technology like Terminal Services. I would suggest Windows Server 2000 for this since every Windows XP client comes with a Windows 2000 TS licnese buil in. No need to actually purchase TS licenses.

Option 1 is portable on laptops. Option 2 is available only if an Internet connection is available.

Think outside the box on this one. I hate downgrading software. My images are not designed for this and it only adds to the bloat of Windows XP.

It is what it is!!
