I am building a new Windows 2000 server which will act as the primary file server. Currently there is a Windows 2000 server online acting as a fax server, but it has AD installed plus it is a domain controller. I want the new server to run Active Directory, authenticate users and act as the primary server. How can I move the users over to the new server, and do I have to do anything so that the new server is the primary server.

If you have only two servers I suggest that you install active directory on the second server in the same domain as the other, then wait a while for the replication to complete and then remove active directory from the second server.

If you still want active directory on the other server to, you'll have to place the roles on the other server or with active directory sites and services and/or with the ntsdsutil command.
