On a 2000 IVS:

System Timer Data COMMAND 41 Y=0 Function Number 27 "Inter-digit Pause on Outgoing Call".

Does this set how long the PBX waits after each dialed digit entry by a user so that it can determine when the user is finished dialing, or does it mean something else?

The data in the system says NONE. Does that mean it's currently at the default value of 7 seconds?

Inter digit pause is precisely that! The time between sending of individual digits. However I think (but can't definitively say) that this only applies to pulse dialling!

Why do you ask?

There is a significant wait (approx. 7 sec give or take) between the time a user finishes dialing an outside number and the time when ringing is heard. We are of course using tone dialing. I tried changing the CM 41 setting, but it didn't seem to a affect this, so maybe you're right that it only applies to pulse dialing.

Speaking of delay, on inbound there is also a wait between the time a call is transferred by the Autoattendant and when ringing at the selected extension is heard.

Whoops, forgot to mention in connection with the Autoattendant transfer that it's on an AD-64 with digital integration to the IVS.

Check the following:
CMD 3545>XX>0 default is 7
CMD 3546>XX>0 default is 7
XX = the route number for the trunks.

It could be related to length of number dialled

- 3576 sets the pattern to be used
850-857 are the tables that define the maximum length of a number

eg if your external number starts with 7 and it can only be a max of 8 digits then set the route to 00
set 850>7:08

This means that the trunk will stop waiting for digits after it has recieved 8 (or the max time per digit*8)

if you have variable length numbers break them out o

if there is nothing set it waits for 24

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll check them, but there might be a delay before I can do so because I'll be away from the site for a bit of time (I can check current settings remotely via dial-in, but would want to be there while making any changes).

Wise move. But post the current settings here and we can discuss them before the visit!

Current settings:

For Trunk Route 01
CMD 3545>01 --->1 which is 4 seconds
CMD 3546>01 --->0 which is 2 seconds
These settings are clearly not the problem.

CMD 3576 returns 15 which means "Not Used" and
CMD 85Y area/office codes are not set and all entries show up as the default 24 digits.

We normally set 3576 to 00
then set the appropriate digit length in 850

this will allow the system to release the call quicker and stop waiting to see whether there are any further digits coming.

if you dont know the max length of a number ( international calls ) , leave it at 24 , if you do know the max length a number can be , set it ( eg in Australia 000 = emergency call) we always set this to 3 digits.

Thanks again - will look into this.
