Is it possible to install 2005 as a default instance even though there is already a SQL-Server2000 default instance installed on the same machine? Or it must be a named instance in that scenario?

Thank you all in advance.

No, you can only have one default instance. If you have a SQL 2000 default instance you will need to either install a SQL 2005 named instance or upgrade the default instance.
