20/40 DAT drive on Compaq ML370 not ejecting

Has anyone seen this before? Im running SCO 5.0.5 on a Compaq Proliant ML370 rack with RAID 1 and a Compaq 20./40 DAT drive.
After a couple of weeks the dat decides its not going to eject the tape anymore.
Any hints on what processes might cause this or known faults /patches would be much appreciated,
