Hi there,
I have a UCx50 with 14 remote users to form a pseudo IP Centrex system. All that you have to do to make the phones work remotely:
-Place your external IP address into the SIP settings/Nortel Settings on the UCx Web GUI.
-Open the appropriate ports on your host router.
-Plug your remote IP phone into the remote router and set the IP Address of the S1 and S2 to that of the host UCx system.
-The phone will log into the UCx and work just like a phone on the host system. No VPN is needed.
Shared Line appearances work just like the BCM Norstar.

Also on those instructions above, the Port should be set at 7000 on the S1 and S2 addresses.

The UCX works perfectly. It's so simple to set up and maintain. You're going to love it.
Voice quality on any voip is really a function of bandwidth and the availability of QOS. If you have 5Mb upload, you're not likely to have any issues at all. Even if you use G.711 codec settings, you could technically have 50 simultaneous calls so I wouldn't worry too much. Packet loss and jitter are what you want to worry about.
I have a few customers who have in excess of 30 IP sets at multiple locations with 6Mbps connections at each and they never complain of voice quality (or anything else for that matter). They just love these systems.

Piece of cake! Even if all 7 phones are in use at the same time, you would only consume approximately 700Kbps of your 5Mbps of your bandwidth. Withour end-to-end QOS. you will be at the mercy of your ISP but with that much bandwidth, I doubt you will have anything to worry about.
