Also i know this set up could be done with ip phones and 1 system etc. Thks for any help.

You'll need
- a voice networking (4) license at each site.
- Preferred Edition (VM pro) at just one and set the other to centralized voicemail. Embedded voicemail is not supported in SCN though we do it all the time, and you'll need centralized to be able to forward messages from a mailbox on one site to one at the other.
- It's a VoIP link so make sure you've got a combo card in each system as you'll need the VCM channels on it.

Thks Qzwsa,, Just to be clear u say i need Voice Networking(4) License ? So 4 is 4 Channels ?? This site is a Non-profit Crisis site,, if i can save them money i would like too,, as u mention SCN on embedded VM , i will be most likely be using latest Software R11,, R10 , would it work early Versions ,like R9.0 also i would get the I.T. Guy to do this thru a VPN Right?? Thks

Yes, the voice networking license allows for 4 channels. You can't get it any smaller. The license allows calls out of that system to other sites. Incoming site-to-site calls do not consume a license. Thus your maximum inter-office communication limit is 8 concurrent calls, 4 originating from each site.

The SCN is only supported if the systems are within one major release of each other. So a 9.1 to a 10.0 is fine, but 8.0 to 11.0 is not supported. It may still work but would likely be flakey and cause issues. Major releases in the past 5 years or so are 8.0, 8.1, 9.0, 9.1, 10.0, 10.1, and 11.0. The SCN capability is available in all releases, or has been since R7.0 when I started working with the IPO.

You can do embedded voicemail as I mentioned, but it is an independent voicemail at each site with no integration between them. It works but the proper way is with the voicemail pro set up as a centralized voicemail. There's a lot more functionality on the VMpro compared to the embedded but the cost of the license reflects that. You only need one site with the preferred edition license as it will propagate virtual licenses to other systems within the SCN.

You'll need a VPN between the sites for sure. You don't want to try this over open internet or port forwarding. SCN is amazingly easy to configure, just build an IP Office line at each site that points to the IP address of the other 500v2. Done. One thing to note, your VPN should have any VoIP application gateway or helper services disabled as they interfere with the Avaya systems, the opposite of the intent of them.

QZ with embedded VM on SCN can they still send a VM message to the site ?? If not i guess if u get voicemail to email working u could do that way ? I guess? I have learning curve to this ,i should of took the training when i was younger.[pipe]

You can address VM boxes through short codes and you can use Voicemail to email. But you can't forward messages from one site to another.

Embedded voicemail is "not supported" but some customers choose to do it. Just be aware you can run into issues doing it. Anything that envolves system to system voicemail can cause issues. Voicemail to email would be fine.
I would not advise 9.1 to 10 I have seen issues there. 10 and 11 play nice, 9.1 and 9.0 play nice, 9.1 and 10 not so much.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

If it is 9.1 to 9.1 embedded , can they still transfer calls and most of the normal telephone features? Also if the AA answers right away is there a way to have it ringing to a phantom ext. 2 rings first snd then be overflwed to AA so the Caller id will be caught? Thks for your help guys.

Yes normal functionality is fine. When you run into an issue is say you have siteA's AA answer. Option 5 sends to extension 250's voicemail which is on siteB. It may work it may not work it may work for a while and then stop working or it may never work. The system(s) get confused about where the mailboxes are located because embedded was never intended to be used when systems are linked. If you keep systemA's voicemail limited to systemA's side and systemB's voicemail limited to systemB's side you "should" be fine.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

As to your caller ID question -

Analog trunks on the IPO have a setting that flips them from loop start CLID or loop start. It won't actual send the call through to the AA or any ringing destination until the ID info is received (or I should say until it should have been received). You don't need to program a delay before answering like a lot of older systems (the Nortel ones for example) as long as the line is set to the correct type. The default is with caller ID.

Thks again to all, been helpful. Does visual voicemail work on R9 and above, embedded VM with Standard Essential mode ?

Yes visual voicemail works just fine R9 and above.
