Greetings,

I think I already know the answer, but will be connecting a new ipo to an older one via vpn. Both will have seperate vmails. Do they need to be the same release? No special characteristics of scn are needed. Just dial an extension on the other side. Thanks

I have been told no more than 1 major release away. I always have mine on the same release. what are your running

for SCN it's recommended to be at the same level,

but I've have an old old 403 at 1.4 still on our network, and each time I upgrade my internal lab system I make test calls to that old 403 system and it works fine using just shortcodes. My LAB is currently at 3.2 (started at 2.1 and upgraded to each level up to the latest) and since it's a 403 I can not take it up to 4

The key is SCN. If you have it disabled, release really doesn't matter so much. You cannot use 2 voicemails with a SCN anyway... Just set up the IP trunks and make shortcodes to dial across the link.

Will just setup sc's to dial across ip trunks then. No needs for scn. Thanks.

If they aren't using SCN then they are two separate phone systems with IP trunks between them - each would have no idea if the far system is an IP Office or not, it could be any switch that supports IP, ie. software level doesn't come into it.
