When you create a 2-column report, you don't want your just one line of data to appear by itself on one column. That being accomplished, you want a group header to repeat from one column to the next. A good example of where you might use this is creating a phone book.

How do you do both of these so they work
a) from column to column?
b) from page to page?

I have been able to accomplish getting one or the other to work, but not both to work at the same time.

I believe what you are talking about is the option "format with multiple columns". Although I have never used it, it is available via the section expert. It is supposed to have the exact effect you described in your phone book analogy.

Another thing I have done is to setup a report to print on mailing labels. You can choose any number of label sizes, or customize and create your own size. You can format down then accross (like a phonebook) or accross then down. This creates the multicolumn effect very well, and you can just print it on regular paper.

Hope this helps. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
