i have an intel d850emv2 board, which supports 2.8ghz 533mhz fsb processors according to intels website. so i bought one installed it and it runs at 400mhz fsb and 2.09 ghz. i talked to intel, they said i need to change my pc800-45ns rdram to pc800-40ns ram, got ram installed it and its still running at 400mhz and 2.09 ghz. please help.................................

I would suggest,

1.) Clear CMOS to start...

2.) get into the BIOS setup, check there for the FSB setting and change it manually...

3.) look in the mobo's manual for jumpersettings etc.

4.) post back if this helped or not...

how do you clear cmos, intel bios doesnt allow any changes as far as memory or clock speeds

I use the Intel D875PBZ board and can change almost anything. They also have on their website a Desktop Control Center Download, I do not know if it can be used for your board, they say its only for top of the line MB's but its worth a try. Good luck. Regards

i cleared the cmos by removing the battery, now i get message when booting , something about 533fsb processor not supported on this board. i can get to windows by holding down insert will booting.intel website says its supported.

Just so others can see what Intel was talking about, here's a link to a FAQ on their site:

Like micker377 said, upgrade your BIOS revision. This part of Intel's site says that you must have P15 or later:

i updated the bios to p25 right before i installed the processor.

Sometimes a motherboard supports a procesor but you have to flash the BIOS. Often a motherboard is designed before faster processors that are not supported are released. In a case like this you would have to flash the BIOS so the CMOS knows how to recognized the CPU. Might also have to have DDR400.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

ceh4702,
He already stated that he's on P25, which should support his processor. Also it's an RDRAM interface, so DDR wouldn't apply here.

beavarjr,
I'm not sure if it's your problem, but you might want to go ahead and return your RDRAM PC800 for some PC1066 instead. PC1066 would run in synch with your 533MHz frontside bus. Leaving 400MHz memory in there just throws that off and adds latency. Plus, your BIOS could be choking for some reason because you're not using the faster memory. Just a guess, but it would be worth the upgrade anyway.

And with the money it would cost the get 512mb of RDram you can buy an new 865 mainboard and a gig of DDR.

Vivec does make a good point, but since you've already purchased the 40ns PC800, I figured you might be able to get lucky and trade it back in towards a PC1066 purchase.

If not, then yes you would probably be better off upgrading the motherboard to an 865PE chipset.
