OK a newbie here,HI all
I have a 1924 switch and a 3com hub along with a Linksys cable router. I hook the Linksys to the hub and then plug my computer into the hub and no prob, I am online.

Now when I plug the Linksys ( cross )to the Cisco 1924,not uplinked, and try, I can not connect. Leds work fine,I get a green on the port I am using. Switch shows me that the port is enabled thru config menu.

I config'd my switch Ip the same net as my linksys
( 192.168....). Is there something I am forgetting?
Must be simple thing cause I'm simple, LOL.

thanks
Joe J

Sounds like the ports you're trying might not be on the same VLAN, maybe try whipping the config off the switch totally. By default, every port is in VLAN 1..

Only thing I can think of off the top of my head, also you might try posting the config on here, so we could take a look and help you better..

The switch could care less about the IP and mask. It's a layer two device regarding the moving of packets. Many times the switch will work perfectly out of the box without ANY configuration. The IP address is important when you want manage it (telnet) or it's using route tables - See snippet below:
Catalyst 1900 - IP Configuration

IP address 10.0.0.3
S] Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
[G] Default gateway 0.0.0.0
[V] Management VLAN 1
[M] IP address of DNS server 1 0.0.0.0
[N] IP address of DNS server 2 0.0.0.0
[D] Domain name
[R] Use Routing Information Protocol Enabled

Fun surprise huh?

So...
host---switch---linksys--internet

is this the config?

Which port is the linksys plugged into? one of the last two ..ports A or B? or did you jack it into on of the first ones? If in A or B, move it to port 1 and then your host on port 2.. just an example.

And to beat a dead horse... host to Cisco is a straight cable and the Cisco to Linksys is a twisted right?

Have you tried to completely reset the switch to factory defaults? I have seen 1900s go *stupid* at random times and not pass traffic. Not real common but it has happened. I assuming that we do not know the history of the switch? ie.. was it ever working somewhere else?

I dont remember on the linksys if it's a 10/100 port or just a 10 port.

I did something like this for months..

internet---linksys---VLAN100/1900---2514---VLAN300/1900--host

So I know it works :) Which linksys is this? Mine was the single port DSL version.

When you say you can not connect... can you not connect to ANYTHING? or just not the internet? Can you ping the LAN side of the Linksys through the Cisco switch? Also, I read that you have a 3com hub.. is that in this mix somewhere? if it is, pull it out just for now.

No the Hub is off right now, not connected at all. I have a Linksys 4 port with a uplink. They say you can just put a straight cable from uplink to a switch or hub. Of course it requires a cross over in order for the port light to come on.

Cable modem->Linksys-->switch-->patch panel-->host

Also if i wanted to use my 2534 router, would I just use the 10bt--> to any port on the switch?

I can not find anywhere where they show how exactly, port wise, to configure a switch and router together. I figure either the AUI with an Eth transceiver into any port on the switch or use the 10bt to any port.
