hi guys..

i have just been reading that 1900 switches can do VLANs.. and can also run some form of IOS.. however, i just upgraded my 1924 to the latest standard image, and it still doesn't support VLANs.. it doesn't even give me the K option to enter CLI mode...

checking on Cisco, my model number, WS-C1924-A, only supports the image i upgraded to.. is the IOS image hidden somewhere, because i don't understand why the latest image should not support what Cisco says the 1900 can..

all help appreciated..

You need the Enterprise version of the 1900 code. Standard does not have the CLI or VLANs..

If I remember right... the early 1900s will not support the CLI or VLANs.. the code development stopped at 5.37 The newer 1900s which use the normal RJ45 and are about 1/2 the size of the older ones go to level 9.x and the enterprise code does support VLANs and the CLI.

If you have the older 1900, there nothing to do other then sell it and replace it with a newer one.

Of course, I might be wrong on this.. it's been a very long time since I've thought about this.

if i tried tp upgrade my image with an enterprise one, would it be compatible.. or do i risk messing up the whole thing..?..

all help appreciated..

Read my last post carefully... is yours the new or old 1900?

DB9 console port or RJ45?

I don't think you can upgrade. I would do just like MikeS said sell it and replace with the enterprise version. eBay has both for about the same price. I saw many EN version for $135.

Hope this help!

my switch is actually a 1924, with two FastEthernet ports and an RJ-45 console port at the rear...

all help appreciated..

If you have the Rj45 in the back, you are more then likely on rev level 8.x for the OS? If so, then it's a simple upgrade once you find a copy of the enterprise code .. something around 9.x
