mY isp (tELUS) has a 1721 router at our location. We are using DSL service. The router is plugged into my Watchgaurd FB-1000. Behind the FB-1000 there is a sonicwall that intiates a VPN connection to a remote location. When this tunnel is up and the remote location attemps to come in through that tunnel on port 80 our system crashes.

We have ruled out the Firewall since I can still ping my gateway through it, and Telus can access the router via modem, and acan ping my internal network, but they cannot pick their end of the router.

Only a reboot of the router will restore connectivity.

I have no info on IOS version but has anyone else seen this??

We have a new router, same problem and we are getting a new modem

Thanks

Matt

Frankenherder,

I also have a 1721 router and was seeing something similar to this using the Cisco VPN client from a remote workstation. The VPN client would establish a connection to the router just fine, then after some random period of time it would appear to disconnect, and any attempt by the VPN client to reconnect would be actively refused by the router. This was a while ago, so I can't remember full details. However, the IOS version was 12.2 and I believe the VPN client was 3.6.

Anyway, upgrading the IOS to 12.3 and the VPN client to 4.0 (for other reasons) appeared to make the problem go away.

Hope this helps.
