I am new to this world of router so bear with me. I have 1700 with a wic-1dsu-t1 interface at one end and a Adtran TSC at the other. The clock is at the Adtran and the Teleco is telling me it is running fast thus dropping of the link from time to time. They said to change end for the clock but can not find out how to program clock in router and help or web page would be appreicated. Thank's

If your ISP is telling you to change the clock source on your C1700 to external (DTE) that means that the Adtran TSC is providing clocking (DCE).

Setup your T1 WIC module with the following commands:

config term
!
int s0
service-module t1 clock source line
!
end

This will force your C1700 to act as the DTE (receives clocking from the line), and your Adtran is providing clocking (DCE).

You wouldn't change the clock rate command for this situation because you have an integrated CSU/DSU which is doing TDM w/ 24 timeslots (64k in width) to achieve T1 speed (1536k/s). If you were going router -> router without CSU/DSU's then you'd have to adjust the clock rate but since there are CSU/DSU's involved no need to do that.
