Hi,
16-bit MS-DOS programm Runs Slow under WindowsXP.
It's a Freight programm that runs from workstations (98 , XP ) and located on the main server (NT 4).
So, under win98 it's perfect, but on XP it's runs VERY slow. I had read some articles in that forum as well in microsoft.com, but didn't found any usefull.
Is any one have any suggestions about that?
Tahnk you

I've had some issues with old DOS programs running on 98 and XP. I found that temporarily shutting down the antivirus freed up enough processor and memory to speed things up a lot.

Noup....no Antivirus Soft on workstations...

It's not using any I/O ports...
Even I asked for support, and they told me
that it's 16-bit bla bla bla and they nothink can do
to make it run under WinXP..... ;o(
But I realy need to do that, or I have to Downgrade to win98....

The problem here is conventional memory, 16bit apps require it, and by default XP doesn't allocate it to them.

Try creating a shortcut to the application on the desktop, then right-click the shortcut, select Properties, click the advanced button at the bottom (under the shortcut tab), and select "Run in seperate memory space". This allocates 1000k of conventional memory to the application, hopefully now should run SUPER STABLE.
