1200 series aironet reports low siginal

I have two aironet 1200's in a large warehouse. using WEP security and left everything else default for the most part except IP info. now, why would the status report 54mbs but say low siginal? if I take the WEP off it seems to get a better siginal why is that?

any help would be appreciated.

54 meg is only the potential rate of the AP . In reality if you get half that you will be lucky . Also the farther away you are from the WAP the slower your connection will be . Encryption may affect the distance a little . 2 AP's for a large wharehouse is probably not enough and will probably give you dead spots . A good site survey should have been done when these were installed , you cannot just stick them where you want.
