I recently upgraded an 11c with IP line card (VGMC) for 50 IP phones (i2050). We need to further upgrade for IP trunks (SIP ready) and I am wondering if I only need a Signalling Server or I also need in addition an IP Trunk Card (if so what type?). Does the Signalling Server also act as an IP trunk card, or do I need one media card to be configured for 32 IP trunks?

Thanks
George

If you want peer to peer trunking you will need a signalling server somewhere in your network as a gatekeeper to route the calls between multiple sites. If you are just going between two sites you may use the VMGC as an ITG trunk card which will be the same as a tie trunk between two sites.

A customer requires to send IP traffic (either H.323 or SIP based) from another country to mine to a call centre.

Can you tell me if a Meridian with Succussion 3.0 and Media Cards programmed as IP trunks will work if traffic is H.323?

Secondly, do I need to upgrade to Communication Server 1000M (add a signalling server to my Meridian 1 Option 11C) and upgrade software to Succession 4.5 for the system to become SIP compliant? If so will the Signalling Server act as the IP trunk card (gateway) or do I need in addition to that a media card configured as IP trunks to receive the IP Trunkside traffic?

Thanks
