Hello

We have a ~200 phone call center running 1150E's with the latest firmware (C27C8Q) on a CS1K running 7.5. The phones have been very reliable and we are just now replacing our first phones after around 4 years of use.

The batch of phones we just received from the vendor as replacement units will not boot. It appears to be a firmware trouble. They are release NTYS06BAE6 Rev 06. The phones will begin the boot and show that they have firmware version 0627C39 (My google-fu turns up no information for this specific release). At this point they attempt to do an update and then give the no LLDPDUs received message. I thought that perhaps I would try an older firmware so I set one of the new phones to look at a TFTP running at my desk and loaded it with the Unistim 3.0 firmware (0627C6E). When the phone boots and attempts to contact the TFTP server, the server log shows that it tries to pull a file called 1150e.cfg. The only files provided with the firmware download are .bin files.

Did Nortel change the filename that the phone looks for for an upgrade at some point or am I missing something? Also, if it is a change in what file the phone is looking for, can any one tell me what firmware version that change occurred in so I can try a two step upgrade using that release?

Thank you in advance.

C39 is circa 2006. Send the units back to your vendor and ask them to supply new units.

You should be able to update the firmware using TFTP. The configuration file 1150e.cfg (located in your TFTP directory) must contain the following section:
[FW]
DOWNLOAD_MODE AUTO
VERSION 0627C6E
FILENAME 0627C6E.bin
PROTOCOL TFTP

Thank you for this. I was looking everywhere for what this config file should actually be. Your answer is much appreciated. Adding this file into the TFTP server seems to have fixed up my issues and allowed me to perform a two step upgrade to latest firmware. I couldn't find any info about it in any of the release read-me files about a two step upgrade being necessary, but I seemed to have bricked a phone going straight to the newest release. That phone won't even boot into the recovery mode (2 + UP at power on). It just illuminates every light on the device and sits there.

You can find more information in the document "IP Deskphones Fundamentals - Avaya Communication Server 1000".

I have here a copy for Release 7.5 - NN43001-368 - Issue 07.18 - February 2013. An example configuration file for 1140 (1140e.cfg) is on pages 403 and 559 of that document.

With regard to the phone that won't even load BootC (when you power up the phone while holding 2 and Up), I am afraid there is no way to recover it - it's probably time to return it and get a replacement.

Thanks, ucxguy. I like that you guys not only are willing to help, but can also point out where to find info on my own. There are so many Avaya pdfs out there that it can be difficult to find the exact one that you need.
