10 new messages....with no voice mail.

I just built a 3903 on a vacant tn. The first programming was to make it an MCR of another set but that got changed.
I went in and changed key 0 to a unique DN.
When I plug in a 3903 it displays "Ten new messages".
There is no voice mail for this set, there is no existing but forgotten mailbox.
The second problem is that when I go to check the call log the set is requiring a password.
Help!

I am doing a firmware update and now the *&%$ thing seems to be hung up at 1/2. No progress in the last 20 minutes.
Thanks for the PWD advice, I will try that soon if the set ever completes the firmware.
What about the "10 new messages" that flashed accross the screen?
